the firefox address bar

This is your address bar!

Once you get over your initial fear of the internet, there are plenty of quick and simple things you can do to make your time spent more enjoyable and easier. By far, the best and most useful shortcut I have come across is for quickly typing in website addresses.

If you’re like me, you quickly have gotten tired of typing in “www.whatsacookie.com” everytime you want to visit this site. You could save a few keystrokes by searching for “whatsacokie” in Google, but then you have to click around a few times.

The best (and fastest) way to get to literally ANY website on the web is:

  1. Click on the Address bar
  2. Type in the name of the website, without the “www.” or the “.com”
    1. So for “www.whatsacookie.com” you would just type in “whatsacookie”, for “www.google.com” you would type “google”
  3. Press and hold the Control (Ctrl) key on your keyboard, and then press Enter.
  4. Your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Chrome) should automatically add all of the required text (http://www. and .com)

Go ahead, try it out! You can visit any website now by just typing the name – google, amazon, whatsacookie – and then press control and enter!

*If you use a Mac, you need to hold the Option key instead of the Control key. Its the one with the weird logo on it.
